Olympic National Park (Deer)
|
The most visible of the larger animals in Olympic National Park are the black-tailed deer. These deer are actually a sub-species of the variety of deer called mule deer. They may be seen in a number of locations and may occasionally be approached fairly closely.
Black-tailed deer stand about three and a half feet at the shoulders and weigh up to about 400 feet.
The deer eat grass and herbaceous vegetation.
As one of the largest animals routinely spotted these deer are impressive sights.
The deer below was caught on Hurricane Ridge with the heavily forested slopes of mountains in the background.
