The great canyon and valley of the King's River are principal attractions in Kings Canyon National Park. The floor of the valley within the park is extremely flat, featuring several beautiful meadows. Below is a view of the north wall of the canyon from the "Canyon Viewpoint."





The edge of the canyon within the park features extremely steep walls and large granite caps, as can be seen below.

The picture below shows North Dome, a 8,717 foot landmark north of the valley, with the Kings River in the foreground.


A closer view of the North Dome is displayed below.



The walls of the canyon tower over its floor. The vast expanses of granite rock are reminiscent of the mountains in Yosemite Valley, although the surface of the rock is less smooth in Kings Canyon.



The mountains and canyon walls south of the Kings River are also steep and formidable.
